08/08/24 Update

Took a break in the midst of reconsidering options as well as writing application essays to scholarships. I am still registered to start in the fall with two classes at Umpqua. I am debating whether I should start or delay or to even rethink the program to which I want to apply. There are two main choices:

  1. Umpqua Community College’s Expert Systems program for artificial intelligence and machine learning. I graduate at the end with a certificate in computer programming and in database management, as well as a completion with Intel’s AI Workforce program.
  2. Apply for the post-baccalaureate program at Oregon State University, at the end I would graduate with a Bachelor’s of Science in Computer Science. I think this option would be fairly ambitious however may be worth it if I want the in-depth technical capacities from a full B.S. CS degree from OSU.

I am interested in studying with OSU professors: Dr. Regan Gurung with Applied Cognition Lab / Center for Teaching and Learning; and Dr. Cass Dykeman with the College of Education.

While I hesitate to delay any longer, and I must be careful about my use of UCC’s financial aid appeals, I have already used one and I would abhor to use another prematurely or unnecessarily.

I have an appointment scheduled with a counselor about discussing these matters further.
